a series of digital video episodes on YouTube that premeired new recordings curated by Co-Artistic Directors Melinda Lee Masur and Ken-David Masur. The first four episodes comprised of the Beethoven Express making stops and visiting artists and composers from around the world.


Beethoven Express Stop One—
Milwaukee / San Francisco
with The Lee Trio

The first stop on the Beethoven Express will bring you brand new recordings from the Lee Trio playing Beethoven, Brahms, and a new commission for the trio by British composer Edmund Finnis. Viewers will also enjoy a look into the studio of German artist Jared Bartz who discusses his recent sculptures of Beethoven.

Beethoven Express Stop Two—
Berlin with Nicolas Namoradze

The second stop on the Beethoven Express transports viewers to Berlin to enjoy a performance by pianist and composer Nicolas Namoradze (Georgia). Namoradze will perform music by Bach, Robert Schumann, Alexander Scriabin, and contemporary Canadian composer Alexina Louie.

Beethoven Express Stop Three—
Boston with The Arabella String Quartet

The third stop on the Beethoven express takes us to Boston where we feature the Arabella String Quartet. The Festival is pleased to present a performance of this quartet who will delight audiences with music by Beethoven, Arvo Pärt (Estonia), and Bedrich Smetana (Czech Republic).

Beethoven Express Stop Four—
Melbourne with Andrea Lam

Our fourth and final stop for the Beethoven Express takes us to Melbourne, Australia! Pianist Andrea Lam will delight audiences with a special performance of Beethoven’s piano sonata "Les Adieux" as well as the World Premiere performance of a special Festival commission of a new piece by Edinburgh-based composer, Ninfea Cruttwell-Reade.
