This year, children will hear Festival-themed music of France and Japan, learn to create Japanese Origami inspired by Festival Artwork exhibited in the Gallery and also get a cooking lesson from Food Network’s Chopped Champion chef Lance Nitahara on a variation of one of the most popular French dishes “Croque Monsieur”.  This event features Chelsea Music Festival musicians, visual artists, as well as Culinary Artist-in-Residence Lance Nitahara and is hosted by CMF Artistic Co-Director Ken-David Masur.

Monsieur Croche, alias Claude Debussy, loved colors and sounds, as well as singing. He was able to transform visual and emotional experiences into beautiful and meaningful sounds that would enrich the world with great music. Now it’s your turn to be inspired by great colors and visual art and create music as well as artwork in response. Encounter instruments such as a bassoon, the human voice, piano, the japanese koto and others, and learn about different styles of music as you compose with a graphic score to one of Monsieur Croche’s favorite melodies. You will also have the chance to learn to Cakewalk. Let’s see who’ll “Take the Cake”!

Age range:
3-10 years old; All ages are welcome
